Cure Diabetes Through Yoga by Huda

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

Diabetes in various forms affects up to 5percent of the world population with 12 million diabetics in Western Europe alone. Of the different ways in which diabetes presents, noninsulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) is probably the most commonly encountered genetic disease. NIDDM or Type II diabetes is multifactorial, depending also on environmental factors including obesity, sedentary lifestyles and nutritional imbalances.

Yoga has shown some beneficial results in curing diabetes. The yoga exercises that are prescribed for curing diabetes is different from hatha yoga exercise because it involves positions tailored to treat certain conditions, as well as meditation, relaxation and stretching exercises.

One of the studies conducted to cure diabetes was the one set up by the Yoga Biomedical Trust, founded in 1982 by biochemist Dr Robin Monro, and an Indian yoga research foundation which discovered that practicing yoga for 30 minutes a day for one month helped reduce blood glucose levels in some diabetics.

The yoga patients took part in one or two 90-minute sessions a week and were asked to practice at home. The classes included the specific yoga exercises of the spinal twist, the bow and abdominal breathing.

At the end of the 12 weeks blood sugar levels fell significantly in all patients in the group and were slightly raised in a control group which had not joined in the yoga sessions. Three yoga students managed to reduce their medication, including one man who had not changed his drug regime for 20 years.

It has been known for a long time that exercise is helpful for diabetics. Yoga therapy may help reduce stress levels which could play a part in maturity onset diabetes. But one drawback is that some patients would find it hard to keep up the regular sessions needed to sustain the benefit. All the patients said they would like to see these classes set up on a permanent basis but we don’t have the money.

It is not necessarily the exercise component of the yoga therapy package which is most important, because there is not enough physical exercise to account for the changes, but stress reduction has a lot to do with it. Stress hormones increase sugar levels in the blood. People also benefit from the stabilization of their moods which yoga brings, an increased feeling of well-being and a feeling of being more in control, which may help with their diet control.

The best strains are therefore suggested out of which organic strains of basmati rice have really no match.

The basmati rice which is available for consumption has superiority over the other strains of rice available. The superiority is for the presence of a fragrance or a special flavor in the rice which makes it delicious and supreme over other usual and common rice strains. Also, the grain of the basmati rice is certainly longer than usual rice and also on cooking, rather than being sticky it is very soft and non-sticky. All these factors make this special rice strain better than the usual ones. Organic farming of basmati rice makes it an even better food which is completely healthy for the body.

Basmati rice is available in the brown and white forms. The brown basmati is the rice which has its husk, bran and germ intact with the grain. “Health is like money, we never know the true idea of its value until we lose it”

Nowadays, people are leading a very unhealthy lifestyle. What do they do in their day to day life? They sit during breakfast, they sit in the train/bus/car on their way to work, they sit at work, they sit during lunch, they sit all afternoon, so what happens? A hodgepodge of sagging livers, sinking gall bladders, drooping stomachs, compressed intestines, and squashed pelvic organs. Good health is very important for everyone, so everyone needs to practice exercise as a duty to lead a healthy life. Exercise helps you live a high quality life. Mostly we don’t find time for exercise which in turn will find time for an illness. No matter how busy you may think you are, you must allot some time for exercising.

Here are some exercises that you can do with an ease at your place without any assistance.

“Walking” is the most basic form of exercise. Particularly for obese people, walking is the recommended start. Walking early in the morning or in the evening is suggested by experts. It helps you burn fat and increase your energy levels and HDL (good) cholesterol, and allows you to escape from health risks such as heart attack, stroke, depression, diabetes, colon cancer, sleep apnea, osteoporosis and so on.

If you are looking for fitness, swimming is just the ticket. The health benefits of swimming can not be matched with any other exercise. Swimming provides a great cardio workout and blood flow to the heart and lungs are much better. You can burn as many calories via swimming. Swimming is a good form of exercise in case you suffer from joint pain. Pregnant women can also get great benefits from swimming. Swimming helps in reducing uncomfortable pregnancy symptoms such as nausea, insomnia, heartburn and aches. During pregnancy a hormone called progesterone increases, which leads to softening of joints, muscles and ligaments. Therefore the chances of a joint or ligament injury is frequent. Swimming helps reduce such joint or ligament injury. It also makes it easier to get back to your pre-pregnancy figure after child birth.

Yoga offers more benefits such as physical, mental and spiritual rewards. Yoga assists you to maintain your health and fitness level in your daily life. You can have a relaxed and a tension-free mind by practicing yoga. It fits men and women of all age groups. Vital organs such as heart, lungs, endocrine glands, liver, pancreas etc will work efficiently. Apart from this, it will improve your blood circulation and helps you to remove waste materials from your body.

Cycling is also a good exercise for your health. Cycling reduces the risk of some serious conditions such as heart disease, high blood pressure, obesity, diabetes and so on.

True enjoyment comes from both activity of the mind and exercise of the body. The two go hand in hand. To be honest, the more you exercise the more you will feel better.

Three Ways to Add Variety to Your Walking Workout by Susan Patterson

Friday, October 17th, 2008

Walking is hands down the most popular form of exercise around. It’s easy to start and doesn’t require anything but a good pair of shoes. Many people who are too embarrassed to try other forms of exercise enjoy a nice walk. The great thing about walking is that when done properly it burns a higher percentage of fat than other activities. But if you’ve hit a plateau or become bored with your routine, there are things you can to add more variety and burn more calories during your workout.

If you’ve been walking for awhile, you may want to try adding a little weight to your walk. Though it may seem very 80s and not as popular as before, you can easily buy an inexpensive pair of ankle weights and/or compact hand weights. The added weight will create more resistance during your walk to burn more. Just make sure you start off very light, especially around the ankles. Injuries will keep you from walking longer than planned, and could throw a wrench in your weight loss.

Change up your routine by adding other exercises in between. After walking for 15 minutes you could stop and stretch for 5 along a wall. Throw in some jumping jacks or push-ups to keep your blood moving. Even better, carry a jump rope with you and hop for one minute before going back to your walk. One minute may not seem like a lot, but jumping rope is a high-intensity activity that is great for your heart. Once you get better you can start doing different tricks like crossing your arms and hopping on one foot.

Change your landscape. Adding hills to your workout will burn more calories than flat terrain. Also, if you normally walk on pavement, try a different surface. If you are close to a beach or other sandy area, opt for that as you will burn 50% more calories here. This could lead to quick weight loss, especially if you’ve hit a plateau and can’t seem to lose any more weight.

If you can’t seem to lose weight, you may not be walking long enough. Also pay attention to your diet. Exercise helps, but only when combined with a sensible diet are you going to see the results you want. Make sure to drink plenty of water and eat lots of fresh foods. If hunger or cravings are a problem, you may want to add a hoodia supplement. This natural appetite suppressant is effective in curbing appetite without side effects. Take it to help you through those problem spots when you eat out of habit instead of hunger.

Susan Patterson has been studying alternative medicine and health for over 10 years. She loves to write to help others, especially in the area of quick weight loss, which can be accomplished safely. She has found several herbal remedies to be effective in her journey to better health without the side effects that medications cause. She is particularly passionate about hoodia for weight loss.

Calories Out Must Surpass Calories In to see Weight Loss

Tuesday, October 14th, 2008

By Jim Mackey

Losing weight. There are so many questions surrounding this popular subject. How do you start, what’s the best diet, do you have to exercise. All of these are some of the things that might pass through the mind of someone wanting to tackle weight loss to get rid of a few pounds. The concerns can be even more rigorous for those needing to lose large amounts of weight. It’s all so overwhelming sometimes. You think about how easy it seems to be to put on weight, and then how hard you have to work to get it off. It just seems unfair. Why can’t weight disappear as quickly as it suddenly appeared and started making our jeans hard to fit into?

Well the answer is simple. In order to lose weight, you have to burn more calories than you consume. It’s much easier to consume calories for some than it is to expend the energy to burn them. Simply put, it’s a lot easier to eat a cheeseburger than to do the cardio required to burn off a cheeseburger. Just ask anyone that’s eaten one.

So now that you know how to get of the weight, there comes the question of putting it into action. Some find that going on special diets helps them get closer to their weight goals without having to do a lot of exercise. There are several things to appeal to that type of person. Liquid diets can be popular. With those, you can just drink the daily nutrition and not have to fuss with preparing special meals. Others prefer the low calorie approach to eating while mixing in exercise. This allows the body to have a two pronged approach to losing weight. You’re taking in fewer calories which will help with your weight loss, while also burning calories during exercise. Studies have shown the low calorie diet with exercise to be the most effective way to lose weight and keep it off. There are so many resources and tools available to aid in calorie counting and getting exercise. Getting exercise is so much easier than you might think.

As any personal trainer would tell you, you don’t have to join a gym to get a workout. Hiring a personal trainer is one way to help you towards your goals. Jillian Michaels is a certified personal trainer on the hit reality weight loss show The Biggest Loser. Jillian Michaels is known for her effective tactics to get her clients reaching their goals. Using everyday materials that you might have lying around your house is a great way to get a workout in.

Jim Mackey has been advising people on how to lose those extra calories. If you want to know more about trainer Jillian Michaels of biggest loser and how to maintain a proper diet for weight lose you can visit

Step Aerobic Exercises For Your Arms

Monday, October 13th, 2008

By Jesse Miller

Step aerobic exercises are gradually gaining popularity amongst people due to their many benefits. They are easy to perform and tone body like any other good workout. They don’t require any equipment except for a raised platform and good shoes and you don’t need to go to any gym or hire any trainer to get started. The following are some great step aerobic exercises to tone your legs:

Hip lift

Step your right foot on the step and lift your left leg backwards. Now place the left leg on the floor followed by right leg and put your right foot on the step and repeat.

Alternating hip lifts

Do the same exercise by alternating the legs. Step your right foot, lift your left leg and step down putting your left foot on the floor followed by right foot and then step with your left foot and raise your right leg.

Over the top

Stand with your right side facing the step. Now step your right foot onto the step followed by your left foot. Then step down with your right foot onto the opposite side of the step followed by your left foot. Now your left side will be facing the step. Step up with your left foot followed by right foot and get back to your initial position and repeat.

Repeaters

Stand facing the step and step up with your right foot and lift your left knee forward.tap the step with your left toe three times and step down with your left leg followed by your right leg. You may repeat the workout or do it alternately by lifting your right leg next time.

You can also do this exercise by first stepping your right leg on the raised platform and then curling your left knee backwards. Tap the step with left foot, curl back, tap again, curl back again, tap the floor again and then put your left foot on the floor followed by right foot. You may perform the workout alternately with curling your left foot and then right foot.

Diagonal

Stand with your right side facing the step. Step your right foot up and put your left foot in front of it. Step your right foot on the corner of the other side followed by your left foot. This is similar to Over the Top, difference being that you have to move diagonally instead of horizontally.

Exercises for Resistance Bands Keep the Road Warrior Fit by Mike Porter

Thursday, October 9th, 2008

I love the open road. It calls me everyday. Perhaps, I should say the open sky, instead. I get up at 5:50 am, say a quick prayer and find myself on a plane to New Jersey, or Miami, or Wichita. I have so many frequent flyer miles, I could own stock in American Airlines. I give them away as gifts whenever possible because I know I will never run out. It is a hard life at times, but I love every minute of it. Even when I am stationed at home, I am thinking about where I am going next and how soon I can get out to do it.

Most of my colleagues have subsequently put on a little weight over the years, because you just can’t find the time to exercise. It is really hard to eat healthy, so that plus lack of exercise equals fat. Sometimes the hotels don’t have gyms. Some hotels have questionable water in the pool and it is not wise to take a jog in an unfamiliar area. I’ve had friends go missing for weeks because they went for a quick run around the block.

But not me. I am a lean, mean resistance band machine. Actually, because of resistance bands I don’t need a machine and I am just as fit.

My sister got me started. She noticed that i was getting a little pudgy so she showed my some exercises for resistance bands. It only took a little and I was hooked. I went online to find more exercises for resistance bands and I hit the jackpot. There were so many. And not just exercises. There are different resistance bands also. You can get Medium resistance if you want to firm up but not bulk up. Or strong resistance for the body builders look. I have all three and they all fold up nicely in my luggage. There are also flat bands and bands with handles. I used to follow DVD’s to learn how to do the exercises properly, but I have most of the memorized now. Here are a couple of my favorites:

Resistance Band Exercise Examples

Upper Body: Chest Press, Side Delt Raise, Bicep Curls, Tricep Extension, Overhead Press

Back : Seated Row, Stiff arm pull down

Legs: Squats, Side steps, Lunges

You can even do great cardio and mat pilates exercises using resistance bands.

I love the variety and the idea that I could do something good for my health anywhere I want, anytime I want.

There is no excuse at all for doing nothing. So let the road call, my fit tone arms will answer.
